31 Bands and over a 1,000 students participated in the 1st annual “Legends” Jazz Fest on Dec. 3rd and 4th, 2009. Students from throughout the state performed on the LHS stage for National Clinicians, received 2 ensemble clinics and played their instruments in 8 separate Jazz Workshops.
The Festival was run by the Legend HS Jazz Band students, hosted by the LHS Band Boosters and sponsored by Flesher-Hinton Music (thanks to Al Davis). Highlights of the concert were: free concerts by Darren Kramer and his DKO Band and Nelson Rangell and his band. A standing room only audience of students and community visitors were treated to world-class music performances.
“most people attending the festival were probably not aware of all the work that it takes to make a festival like this happen.”
– Darren Kramer, leader of DKO

On a nice but chilly Saturday afternoon, the Legend High Marching Band marched down Main Street with a sea of blue band shirts in the audience cheering on the band. Our Marching season may be over for 2009, but it’s only the beginning for this amazing band… view for one last time, our last marching event officially for two-thousand and nine. See you next year!

The 1st LHS Titan Band Craft Fair held recently was a great success. Held in the LHS Commons, local Denver crafter’s sold their awesome goodies to Parker residents. LHS Band Students and Parents helped in many ways from helping setting up booths on Friday night, running food to the craft vendors on Saturday, painting faces, holding signs out by the school road and running the concession stand.
There were baked goods, jewelry, candles, clothes, used books, wood-work, quilts and so much more provided at the craft fair, and it was bustling with activity from the moment the doors opened till we closed down!
Some items of mention that proceeds go to the LHS Titan Band Boosters that you don’t want to miss out on are the Titan Band Nutcrackers. These adorable wooden figurines will just melt you heart! Painted in the Titan Band colors, and a blue feather that replicates the Titan Band uniform – you will want to have one in your home for the holidays! Color Guard: Order yours too! Yours will be this years uniform from this years performance!
Orders can be taken by contacting: Janet Kurihara. She has 2 sizes available, small (pictured here) and large (about double the size of the small). Prices are Small: $15.00 and Large: $25.00 and all proceeds go to the LHS Titan Band Boosters.
You won’t want to miss the 1st Annual LHS Titan Marching Band Calendar. A lot goes into making a band perform well. Minutes before taking the field, there are warms ups, uniform checks, and last minute practice’s. Thanks to Mrs. Conrad who captured the Legend Titan Band at State Championships this past week to catch those behind the scene moments!
Good Luck!

It was an early arrival to the high school – most of the students were fighting a cold/flu so it started off being very quiet on the bus ride to Grand Junction, Colorado.
Our first stop was in Glennwood Springs with a visit to the hot springs. Half of the band went for a dip in the hot springs, and the other half ventured into town (stocking up on snacks at the local 7-11). Warm mineral spring water that was 92 and 104 degrees, and on a sunny day made for a lot of smiles!
Arriving into Grand Junction around 3pm, the band settled into their assigned rooms, a hour rest before pratice at the local high school, then dinner back at the hotel provided by the Band Booster parents… the kids were able to relax and enjoy the evening before their 9pm curfew in their rooms.
The Sophomore’s however – considered ‘Seniors’ were able to break curfew, and venture across the street for pie with Mr. Otis. A new tradition was born with the band.
With a Saturday early morning wake-up call, and on the bus by 8:30am, the Legend Titan band headed to downtown GJ for the parade and inspection.
Watching the military personnel walk through the rows of students and look their uniforms over from the side of the street was nerve racking! The students did well with the inspection, and within minutes – off they marched in the Grand Junction parade. Less than a mile, most of the students said it felt like they only marched for 10 minutes or less and it was over.
The band then headed over to Mesa State College stadium for the field performance. Resting on the bus, feed for lunch, at 1:15pm they took the field to cheers from the audience once the amazing propellers where set into motion. Comments from the judges, and the crowd were music to the students ears. “A force to be reckoned with”, “amazing performance from a new band”, “wow – what a great show from a Freshman and Sophmore only band”
We came in .05 from being 1st place, finishing 2nd in the 3A class of the 2009 Grand Junction West Marching Festival. The field show category they finished with a score of 50.80 only .05 behind the 1st place band. The band also finished a very close 2nd in the parade category as well. The band earned its highest scores in the visual and music caption areas. The band also finished 6th overall out of 14 bands. It was a great way to end the day.
We wish to thank the band for their outstanding work, the parents who chaperoned, helped feed the band, band pit crew, our band staff, and to the band boosters. Thanks for your hard work!
More pictures and video from parents to arrive tomorrow!
