A lot goes into making a band perform well. Minutes before taking the field, there are warms ups, uniform checks, and last minute practice’s. Thanks to Mrs. Conrad who captured the Legend Titan Band at State Championships this past week to catch those behind the scene moments!

Congratulations to the 2009 LHS Marching Band. On Monday, Oct. 26th the Band competed in its 1st CBA State Marching Championship
in Pueblo, Colorado. The band finished 6th in the 3A class. The band started the day in 7th place and after pre-lims had moved up to 5th place and by the end of the day at the evening finals under the lights of the Thunderbowl Stadium they finished 6th!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!
Our students competed in their 1st year of marching at the very highest level. Their hard work, perserverance and dedication to excellence of the activity paid off.
There were many highlights throughout the day, but a student favorite was the FULL BAND RETREAT that we were a part of. All of the finalist bands were paraded back on to the field for the final awards… what a site to see our 70 kids standing in perfect attention and parade rest during this memorable ceremony.
Congratulations to the 2009 Legend Titan Marching Band! We are all VERY PROUD of you!
Our season started in July when it seemed like no one knew what was going on including the difference between left and right face, but we soon got that figured out. After summer band camp, learning music, breaking down drill, a parade, an overnight trip, 4 football games, homecoming week, a marching festival, the CBA contests and Tuesday/Thursday rehearsals, it all started to make sense. “It Was A Journey” !!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone for travelling with us…. The Legend has begun…..
Thanks to the students, the boosters(who all went the extra mile), the parents -You know who you are and THANK YOU! Rob, Linda, Tohbias, Alex, David, , Erin, Rachel, Ryan, Tucker, Erik, Angelo, Heather, Charlie, Russ and Katie -you also made a difference! And finally, thanks to our principals – Corey Wise (Legend) and Karen Tarbell (Cimarron) we appreciate your support!

It was an early arrival to the high school – most of the students were fighting a cold/flu so it started off being very quiet on the bus ride to Grand Junction, Colorado.
Our first stop was in Glennwood Springs with a visit to the hot springs. Half of the band went for a dip in the hot springs, and the other half ventured into town (stocking up on snacks at the local 7-11). Warm mineral spring water that was 92 and 104 degrees, and on a sunny day made for a lot of smiles!
Arriving into Grand Junction around 3pm, the band settled into their assigned rooms, a hour rest before pratice at the local high school, then dinner back at the hotel provided by the Band Booster parents… the kids were able to relax and enjoy the evening before their 9pm curfew in their rooms.
The Sophomore’s however – considered ‘Seniors’ were able to break curfew, and venture across the street for pie with Mr. Otis. A new tradition was born with the band.
With a Saturday early morning wake-up call, and on the bus by 8:30am, the Legend Titan band headed to downtown GJ for the parade and inspection.
Watching the military personnel walk through the rows of students and look their uniforms over from the side of the street was nerve racking! The students did well with the inspection, and within minutes – off they marched in the Grand Junction parade. Less than a mile, most of the students said it felt like they only marched for 10 minutes or less and it was over.
The band then headed over to Mesa State College stadium for the field performance. Resting on the bus, feed for lunch, at 1:15pm they took the field to cheers from the audience once the amazing propellers where set into motion. Comments from the judges, and the crowd were music to the students ears. “A force to be reckoned with”, “amazing performance from a new band”, “wow – what a great show from a Freshman and Sophmore only band”
We came in .05 from being 1st place, finishing 2nd in the 3A class of the 2009 Grand Junction West Marching Festival. The field show category they finished with a score of 50.80 only .05 behind the 1st place band. The band also finished a very close 2nd in the parade category as well. The band earned its highest scores in the visual and music caption areas. The band also finished 6th overall out of 14 bands. It was a great way to end the day.
We wish to thank the band for their outstanding work, the parents who chaperoned, helped feed the band, band pit crew, our band staff, and to the band boosters. Thanks for your hard work!
More pictures and video from parents to arrive tomorrow!

Our students and parents all shared stories about how numerous people sought them ought to congratulate them on the parade and field show performances.
After the event was over, in an unprecedented show of sportsmanship and humility, members of the Palisaide Band came over to congratulate the Legend HS Band members. It was a wonderful exchange and it says a lot about the Director and Students of Palisaide and I’m sure it is something our Legend students will not soon forget!
Congratulations to the Palisaide HS band they won more than 1st place in the 3A class…
NEXT up is the CBA Regional Band Competition on Thursday, Oct. 15th at Littleton HS. Performance Time is 4:45pm… In a major show of support we need every parent in attendance. WEAR YOUR LEGEND BLUE!
